Year 10 Science Club

Last Monday, our wonderful Y10 Chemists produced and experienced the wonderful aromas of esters! Many esters have distinctive odours, which has led to their use as artificial flavourings, perfumes and fragrances. To make esters, our Year 10 Chemists heated different alcohols with organic acids in the presence of a catalyst. They were able to produce a variety of interesting smells to sample and compare!
