Science Club This Week

It was another exciting day for our Year 10 Chemists who were busy making their own soap. Soap making, also known as saponification, is an ancient process going back at least 4000 years and mentioned in ancient Babylonian scripts. Handwashing with soap and clean water is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of microbes and its importance has been reinforced by the COVID-19 pandemic. To test their soap, our Year 10 Chemists shook a tiny amount of the soap with distilled water and see whether it formed a lather.

A big thank you to our Year 12 Scientists (Pratik, Anuyah, Roberto, Moska, Mania, Elona and Fardous) for their help with the club.
