Year 10 Science - Bath Bombs
Posted on: 31/01/2022When the weather outside is frightful, soaking in a hot bath can sound especially appealing. Our wonderful Year 10 chemists wanted to take this experience to the next level by making their own bath bombs! To do this, they mixed citric acid with baking soda and corn flour, before slowly adding the wet mix (oil, food colouring and water) to form a wet sand consistency. When the bath bomb is added to water, a chemical reaction occurs. Carbon dioxide is produced during the reaction and causes the bath bomb to fizz and break down. This activity enabled our Year 10 chemists to learn about neutralisation reactions in a different context. They will be looking at these reactions in more detail later in the year.
A massive thank you to our amazing Year 12 scientists: Anuyah, Roberto, and Sana for their help!
