Year 10 Science Club - Eye Dissection
Posted on: 03/03/2022Last Monday’s science club was a student favourite: an eye dissection. The eye is incredible! Different organisms have different kinds of eyes, but all mammals have very similar eyes in structure and function.
Our wonderful Y10 biologists explored the different structures of a sheep's eye. They then had to remove the lens and place it on a newspaper to magnify random words. Some students were even able to find the tapetum lucidum, a shiny blue-green substance at the back of the eye of many animals. This causes the eyes of animals to look like they are glowing in the dark. The function of the tapetum lucidum is to reflect light, thereby allowing animals to see better in the dark.
This activity enabled students to learn more about living things and perhaps consider pursuing a career in biology.
A massive thank you to the following Y12 scientists for their help: Anuyah, Roberto, Sana and Mania.
