KS3 Science Club- Making Stomp Rockets

Posted on: 25/05/2022

Have you ever enjoyed watching something lift off into the air, like fireworks at a show or a spacecraft launching? It can be an amazing experience. It is thrilling to see something lift off against Earth's gravity.

Last Thursday our wonderful KS3 physicists explored the power of flight by making stomp rockets out of plastic bottles and testing their flight distances. A stomp rocket is a rocket that takes flight due to pressurised air. To launch the rocket, students used an air pump to pressurise the inside of the body of the rocket to provide thrust- the force which moves the rocket through the air.

This activity was a great way for students to learn the basics of forces and the response of a vehicle to external forces.
