GCSE Exam Success Summer 2021
Posted on: 12/08/2021Despite a hugely challenging year, Year 11 students at The Compton School have achieved some of the best GCSE results in the school’s history. GCSE Results Day 2021 felt optimistic and positive with students eagerly (and nervously) opening their white envelopes; there were lots of smiles when students saw that their hard work had paid off and an atmosphere of relief and excitement filled the concourse.
Shukri Kemal, Key Stage 4 Leader, had the privilege of talking to some of the top achieving students on the day:

How do you feel today?
I am so surprised! To be honest I did better in some subjects than I expected. Some I felt I could have done better. I am delighted with my Religious Studies grade!
What are your future plans?
Obviously I am staying at The Compton School Sixth Form. I will be studying RPE (Religion, Philosophy & Ethics), English Literature and Psychology.
Why the Compton Sixth form? What are you looking forward to the most?
I am very familiar with the environment. Teachers are so supportive and they really believe in me. I am looking forward to the transition from Key Stage 4 to Key Stage 5.
What has been your greatest challenge this year?
For me it was the motivation to revise. In school my teachers encourage me and help me to learn, at home you are on your own so it’s more difficult!
What advice would you give to students in Year 10/11 about getting through the GCSE years?
Most definitely to start revision as early as possible! Also, it is so important to focus in every lesson, take part, contribute. Teachers give feedback so always take it on board. I think it’s important to see your teachers after school and ask for help if you need it.
What is the best thing about The Compton School?
The supportive environment.

How do you feel today?
Really, really good! I was so nervous to be honest!
What are your future plans?
I will be studying at The Compton School Sixth Form. I will be studying Maths, Chemistry and Computer Science. I plan to study Computer Science at University, it is something I am passionate about.
Why the Compton Sixth form? What are you looking forward to the most?
The school is excellent. It helped me to achieve great results. I really do appreciate all the support teachers gave me.
What has been your greatest challenge this year?
November mocks were such a challenge. Preparing for exams is never easy.
What advice would you give to students in Year 10/11 about getting through the GCSE years?
Revise as early as possible, do not underestimate how important that is.
What is the best thing about The Compton School?
I have made such great friends. It’s a fantastic environment.

How do you feel today?
So happy and very relieved! It’s been on my mind for ages.
What are your future plans?
I am staying at The Compton School Sixth Form. I will be studying English Literature, Drama and History. I plan to study something to do with the Arts at University, that’s my passion. I may study Drama at University!
Why the Compton Sixth form? What are you looking forward to the most?
I like the environment, the teachers are so supportive. I have made great friendships here. The teachers really are experts in their subjects.
What has been your greatest challenge this year?
I missed the human interaction due to online learning during lockdown. Teachers are fantastic at motivating you in class.
What advice would you give to students in Year 10/11 about getting through the GCSE years?
I think put in the effort and it will pay off.
What is the best thing about The Compton School?
It is a fantastic environment. The teachers are brilliant.

How do you feel today?
Very happy and shocked! I am also excited and relieved.
What are your future plans?
The Compton School Sixth Form. I will be studying English Literature, Psychology and Religion, Philosophy and Ethics or maybe Art!

I really trust the teachers; they are experts in their field. I like the environment.
What has been your greatest challenge this year?
Balancing content, homework and revision.
What advice would you give to students in Year 10/11 about getting through the GCSE years?
Start revision early and be organised!
What is the best thing about The Compton School?
The school makes all of us better students. I like how the teachers push us and challenge us.

How do you feel today?
Mya - A mixture of emotions. I am so happy!
Carryanne - I was a little nervous.
What are your future plans?
Mya - I am staying at The Compton School Sixth Form. I will be studying Business Studies, RPE (Religion, Philosophy and Ethics) and Geography.
Carryanne - I am also staying at The Compton School Sixth Form. I will be studying Psychology, Sociology and English Literature.
Why the Compton Sixth form? What are you looking forward to the most?
Mya - The Compton Sixth Form is excellent; it has a fantastic record with grades. I also love being here!
Carryanne - The environment is really positive. I am comfortable here.
What has been your greatest challenge this year?
We both feel lock down was difficult and we were so happy to be back in lessons.
What advice would you give to students in Year 10/11 about getting through the GCSE years?
Mya - Revise as early as possible –so important!
Carryanne - Be organised.
What is the best thing about The Compton School?
Mya - the amount of help we get; the teachers really care!
Carryanne - The environment is so supportive. I really appreciate all the help I have received since Year 7.

The Compton School Sixth Form. I will be studying Maths, Chemistry and Further Maths. I am considering studying Maths at University.
Why the Compton Sixth form? What are you looking forward to the most?
I appreciate how supportive all the teachers are. I am looking forward to having lots of new experiences in Sixth Form.
What has been your greatest challenge this year?
Being motivated whilst doing online learning during lockdown was difficult.
What advice would you give to students in Year 10/11 about getting through the GCSE years?
Staying on top of all your work and being organised. I also think students should not be afraid of asking for help, teachers really support you and go the extra mile.
What is the best thing about The Compton School?
I love the community and I have made so many great friends.

How do you feel today?
Really happy. It’s been such a weird year. I was nervous but at the same time very confident. I worked so hard!
What are your future plans?
I would really like to study Physics at University, I am passionate about it.
What has been your greatest challenge this year?
I think the lockdown really encouraged me to learn how to be more independent. Teachers gave us the tools and structure to become independent learners. It actually made me so much more responsible. This was a blessing as it has provided me with the life skills now to succeed.
What advice would you give to students in Year 10/11 about getting through the GCSE years?
Revise as early as possible. Do not be nervous and always do your best.
What is the best thing about The Compton School?
I love how diverse the community is. I have so many great friends.

What are your future plans?
The Compton School Sixth Form. I will be studying English Literature, Chemistry and Sociology.
Why the Compton Sixth form? What are you looking forward to the most?
I really love the enrichment provided by the school. Teachers have done so much to help me to get these good grades, I really appreciate it. I am looking forward to having more responsibility in the Sixth Form. I am keen to be involved in the leadership team and I want to help younger students.
What has been your greatest challenge this year?
Keeping on top of the workload can be difficult as I have such high expectations of myself.
What advice would you give to students in Year 10/11 about getting through the GCSE years?
Listen to your teachers and take on board their feedback. I think starting revision early is vital.

I was so nervous; I am feel so happy!
What are your future plans?
The Compton School Sixth Form. I will be studying Physics, Biology, Chemistry and Maths. I am determined to study Medicine at University.
Why the Compton Sixth form? What are you looking forward to the most?
The Compton Sixth Form has a fantastic track record of achieving great results. I know the Sixth Form will challenge me and help me to succeed in my goal of studying Medicine. I am keen to get involved in extra-curricular opportunities. Medicine is competitive and the Sixth Form will support me.
What has been your greatest challenge this year?
I think keeping on top of the work load was difficult.
What advice would you give to students in Year 10/11 about getting through the GCSE years?
I think stay on top of your work load and be organised. Active revision is so important and helps you to stay focused.
What is the best thing about The Compton School?
I really liked the extra-curricular opportunities. I also think the teachers do so much to support all students.
