The Compton School Garden
Posted on: 18/06/2019The garden is going from strength to strength with the first produce being harvested. The raspberry crop has been turned into tasty jam by Mrs O’Shea in the food room and herbs such as rosemary, thyme and mint have been added to students dishes to add that extra bit of zing.
The garden is not just home to fruit and veg but has a host of wildlife that calls it home. As the garden is totally organic, no pesticides have been used and wildlife can flourish like the starlings nesting above in the roof and the robins and wrens that pick off the insects living in the wildlife area of the garden.
The garden is open to any department to use as an open air resource……what better than learning a language out in the sun or having students practising their skills in nature photography using the garden as a backdrop.
The STEM club run on Thursdays by Ms Stang-lord have already taken ownership of one of the newly refurbished raised beds and have started propagating strawberries, carrots and tomatoes.
If anyone wants to help out in the garden, use it as resource in their curriculum or has anything that they would like to donate (seeds, tools, compost etc) please contact Mr Hall
