Interview with past A Level Art student Melisa

Posted on: 18/03/2024

What was your experience of A Level Art like?
A Level Art was a period of time I really cherished. I learned a lot about myself and gained confidence in my work. I had endless support from staff and peers who ensured that I believed in my abilities!

How did the work you made during your A Level help you to get a place at your chosen University?
We were encouraged to experiment - I tried out many techniques and mediums which helped me realise what I was good at. I was very supported in my university application for art. My teachers did an amazing job of guiding me and even introduced me to my current course.

What course are you studying now?
I am studying Foundation Art and Design at Central Saint Martins, UAL. I have recently decided to chose the painting specialism.

What have been some highlights from your course so far?
I've already showcased my work to the public twice. These were amazing opportunities for me that have contributed to my portfolios. The course has pushed me outside my comfort zone and I feel as if I am constantly developing.

Have you used any skills from your A Level Art in your new course?
A Level Art taught me to try something over and over in different forms and mediums which I have definitely carried with me. I also developed a love for drawing during my A Level and made sure that I signed up for the life drawing society on campus because of this! Those life drawing sessions completely altered my thinking!

What is your plan next?
I hope to do a BA in Fine Art at Central Saint Martins. I have also received offers from other UAL campuses. I am excited for my final show and to start selling my work!
